Successful SMED project in the manufactory No. GMH2 of Grundfos Magyarország Gyárt. és Szolg. Ltd. |

 On January 4, 2007 the Lean
consulting team of Hexolut held a 4 days SMED workshop in the manufactory No.
GMH2 of Grundfos in Tatabánya. As a result of the workshop for the development
of the changeover procedure of the Mazatrol 640 processing centre we could
reduce the turn around time of the selected changeover by 50% by the end of the
4th day.
Throughout the workshop we laid
great emphasis on the employees' qualification and to draw them into the work.
First of all, employees who do manufactory work, took part in a SMED training
where they had the chance to learn the theoretical basis of SMED in practice as
well as the successful use of SMED in other industries. After that we recorded
the procedure and analysed it with the participants. Then we worked out the
different procedure improving proposals with help of the machine setters and
the machine operators. After all we ‘rehearsed‘ the improved procedures. We
noticed with satisfaction that already after the fist try the turn around time
of the developed procedure got reduced by over 50%.
